Multiplex has been given the job of building the Central Market Arcade redevelopment which will include 210 apartments and a hotel, with work set to begin in June.

The project will also feature new retail spaces and a seven storey commercial office tower.

Adelaide Lord Mayor Sandy Verschoor declared the appointment a major milestone for “one of Adelaide’s most important projects”.

“We are very proud to be working alongside project  partner ICD Property, as well as the Central Market, the Adelaide Central Market Authority – and now Multiplex – to bring this project to life,”

Government agencies, education institutions and prominent legal and accounting firms are negotiating to move into the office space at the redeveloped Central Market Arcade, the developer behind the $400 million project says.

ICD Property managing director Matthew Khoo, whose Melbourne-based development company has partnered with the Adelaide City Council to redevelop the ageing arcade, told InDaily he has already had “good discussions” with prospective tenants to fill the seven floors of office space.

The $400m Adelaide Central Market Arcade redevelopment has been approved by the State Commission Assessment Panel, with construction set to begin later this year.

ICD Property and Adelaide City Council announced on Thursday that the State Commission Assessment Panel (SCAP) had approved the development, which is expected to break ground later this year, with construction to take three and a half years.

The project will see the ageing Central Market Arcade demolished for new retail areas and a 38-storey office, hotel and residential building.
